In the history of Ghana was a queen who led men to war. So many years down the history lane, another queen is on a war path and leading the men to expand territories. She is the Queen of Ghana Comedy, Jacinta Ocansey.
Comedy Empire caught up with her at the Odogwu Standing Ovation in Nigeria where she honoured an invitation by Dan D’Humorous to be one of the special guests alongside comic actor, Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) of Aki and Pawpaw fame.
Not being her first time in Nigeria, the Ghagerian expressed delight in being recognised in her second home. She said, “Nigerians are welcoming and I feel so great to be honored with such an invite especially when it’s with no one but Aki.”
Being the only female in the male dominated industry, she has broken boundaries and is making it in the competitive comedy industry in Nigeria. In August this year she has toured Nigeria, where she performed at the Silver Lounge in Yaba, Lagos at a weekly comedy show hosted by one of Nigeria’s top notch comedians, Buchi. She was also featured on ‘Shakara and the Gang’ where she shared stage with Nigeria’s tallest comedian, Akpororo, The Lord of Naija Comedy, Gordons, Kenny Black, co-female act Helen Paul (also MC for the event), and a host of other great Nigerian comics. This event was graced with the presence of the wife of former Lagos state governor, Mrs Abimbola Fashola and the famous E- money.
The Ghanaian Diva didn’t fail to put Ghana out there as she blessed the mic at Port HarCourt where she performed at the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Women Forum and Female Judges Forum NBA Annual Conference in an event hosted by the Governor and his wife.
Besides being on stage, she has granted many interviews to top radio and television shows in Nigeria, notably, Africa Sport On with Moses Praiz (MPraiz) on Super Sport 9, DSTV, City FM with Helen Paul, Smooth FM with Khadijah and R2TV with Dolapo and Michael which has got her an endorsement from Gordons who is ready to support the Jacinta brand. She was also made to host a Breakfast Show on TV.
“My coming to Nigeria is a good avenue to project Ghana. It’s rather unfortunate Ghana comedy is not known in Nigeria as we do know them. I try to use every opportunity to make a difference. Just like Yaa Asantewaa led the Ashantis in the war, I’m also leading the Ghanaian acts to conquer Nigeria and the world. My dream is to fill Apollo and carry Ghana Comedy to the world but we, I and the other Ghanaian comedians can only achieve this if our own people support us like Nigerians have done for Basketmouth”, the sexy Queen of Comedy said.
Comedy Empire is proud of her and wish her all the best. It’s our only hope the Nigerians don’t buy her.
